Piyush Pathak
Gazetted Central Government Officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers, with a decade running infrastructure operations at scale, delivering mainline speed upgrades, bridge rebuilds under live traffic and network wide asset renewal, consistently under hard constraints of traffic, ecology and capital. Now leading capital planning: station redevelopment master plans, strategising network augmentation and expansion, land monetisation. Commands large contracts end to end, from estimation and tendering to variation, dispute resolution and expenditure control. Deep grasp of regulatory nuance, inter ministerial negotiation and centre state liaison, with a keen eye for where programmes and processes bottleneck.

Indian Railways
Senior Divisional Engineer, Northern Railway, Moradabad Division
- 1. Delivered eight structurally and ecologically complex works in a single reporting year across the Haridwar–Dehradun region, several long stalled by regulatory, ecological or inter-state constraint rather than by engineering difficulty.
- 2. Designed and executed flood-mitigation and scour-protection works on the Ganga bridge (Bridge No. 1248) end-to-end within six months — in-house hydrological and flood-prediction assessment, contracting and execution — securing the bridge against monsoon flood and scour through close liaison with the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments and their irrigation departments.
- 3. Replaced a 125-year-old arch bridge (No. 39) on a single-line section with an RCC box of adequate waterway, cast and launched in one traffic block, eliminating a long-standing structural bottleneck and chronic waterway choking; rebuilt two further distressed mainline bridges (Nos. 1263 and 1286) within sanctioned blocks with no disruption beyond scheduled possession.
- 4. Prepared the region's capital blueprint: techno-feasibility and master plans converting Haridwar and Dehradun into 24-coach stations — turning a Dehradun expansion previously declared infeasible into a phased, workable plan through minimised regrading — alongside sanction and commencement of the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Pathri and a costed land-transfer proposal for the old Rishikesh station.
- 5. Commissioned the division's first contractor-owned track-renewal machine to mechanise complete track renewal through the ecologically restricted Rajaji Tiger Reserve, improving quality on a stretch previously resistant to mechanisation.
Divisional Engineer, Northern Railway, Moradabad Division
- 1. Transformed an 84-kilometre section (Najibabad–Saharanpur) with historically poor running characteristics — the up-line carrying a majority of reverse curves ahead of bridges — into one of the fastest on the route, raising mainline speed 10 percent after realigning 55 curves to increase transition length and speed potential.
- 2. Cut high-magnitude track geometry peaks by 91 percent within a year, from 0.46 to 0.03 per kilometre on the up-line, and lifted the section's track quality index from 92 to 99 — achieved through total-station survey and design-mode tamping across 147 kilometres of plain track and 146 turnouts, not through additional expenditure.
- 3. Rebuilt the track structure at scale: 61 turnouts converted from lighter 52 kg to heavier 60 kg rail, all compound joints eliminated from the mainline, 40 mainline turnouts deep-screened, 1,019 bridge sleepers renewed, and 14 girder-bridge alignments corrected using a bridge-shifting jack developed in-house.
- 4. Remodelled Rishikesh yard to receive full-length 24-coach trains, up from 18, at a civil cost of 4.5 crore rupees; commissioned a boulder-impact protection tunnel and an electronic interlocking system inside the Rajaji Tiger Reserve under severe ecological and single-line operational restriction.
Assistant Divisional Engineer, Varanasi, Northern Railway, Lucknow Division
- 1. Rebuilt a double-track mainline bridge (No. 4, UP and DN) on the congested Varanasi–Mughalsarai route in a single six-hour block against an original four-block, sixteen-hour plan — a 60 percent time compression by resequencing — upgrading the structure two rating classes and lifting its speed caution immediately.
- 2. Removed seven decades-old speed restrictions after sustained work on track alignment, substructure and strengthening, saving up to 10.7 minutes per train in one direction on a corridor carrying 54 million gross tonnes annually — executed through COVID with blocks secured almost daily.
- 3. Eliminated every wooden sleeper from the section, a generational safety upgrade, including 1,881 steel channel sleepers and over 2,000 metres of guard rail renewed on the important-category Malviya bridge with zero missing fittings.
- 4. Cleared 8,500 square metres of long-entrenched encroachment across defence, state, police and paramilitary authorities, unblocking stalled third- and fourth-line expansion at Varanasi.
- 1. All Indian Rank 02 in Indian Engineering Services Examination 2015 conducted nationally by Union Public Service Commission
- 2. Admitted on Scholarship (25%) to the PGPX program at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad
- 3. Principal Chief Engineers Award in 2024 for Ushering in Efficiency by Speed Raising in the Critical Najibabad-Saharanpur Railway Route after removing Infrastructure Bottlenecks by methodical and mechanised maintenance
- 4. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Award (Individual) in 2021-22 for meritorious service
- BTech in Civil Engineering, JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida
- 1. Micromasters degree in Data Economics and Design of Policy, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA. Earned a full semester worth of credits in Microeconomics, Data Analysis, Designing and Running Randomised Evaluations, Developments in Global Poverty and Foundations in Development Policy
- 2. Certificate in Supply Chain Analytics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA
- 1. Won several prizes (1st and 2nd) in Music (instrumentals and performance) across years 1998 through 2011; Including in International COFAS competition 2005; performed on invitation at the Commonwealth Youth Festival, New Delhi 2010
- 2. Won the Silver Medal in Badminton Doubles at the IRSE probationer all batch tournament
